Chemical Heritage Editorial Internship
Chemical Heritage, the magazine of the Chemical Heritage Foundation, seeks an energetic, organized, and highly motivated student intern to work with its editorial and production staff. The intern will work on long and short-term projects resulting in the timely publication of a four-color history of science magazine with a circulation of 20,000. The magazine is published three times a year and offers paid internships for each issue: Fall, Spring, and Summer.
Duties
- Carry out research and fact-checking
- Write brief articles for the print magazine, Web site, and blog
- Perform image research for routine and feature articles; obtain pictures and permissions for image use
- Give input and suggestions at magazine weekly meetings
- Help maintain, check, and update files (paper and electronic)
- Read magazine proofs for errors and typos
- Assist in mailings
- Update magazine indexes
- Compile and draft magazine’s table of contents
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- Pursuit of degree in a related field, such as journalism, English, communications, history, history of science, or chemistry
- Some knowledge of or interest in chemistry and/or the history of science
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Photoshop
- Ability to work both independently and with others
- Good communication, organization, and research skills
- Comfortable in a deadline-driven environment; able to take responsibility for multiple projects
Commitment: 10-15 hours per week.
Duration: Spring, summer, or fall semester.
